En este post y de este libro me voy a referir como lector y como editor, aun cuando no necesitaría, como se observará, ser lo último para opinar respecto a las características formales de la publicación. Como lector, chapotearé en subjetividad.
La versión del lector
Creo que durante mi adolescencia pasé muchas, quizá demasiadas tardes y noches de verano en el Real Club. También de las demás estaciones, pero menos. Tocando fondo de aburrimiento y habiendo agotado incluso la opción de la cancha de bochas, pisé una vez la biblioteca del lugar. Como era de suponer, esta ofrecía libros viejos que la gente donaba para no sentirse culpable de tirar, diarios, algunas revistas. Abrí una Caretas. Recuerdo el momento, la soledad, los fluorescentes, el mantel sintético de color borgoña, las voces del baño de mujeres que atravesaban la pared medianera. Había un artículo sobre la movida subte, con un retrato abridor de la cantante del grupo Flema, la legendaria María T-ta. Un texto… ¿qué era eso? ¿Crónica? ¿Entrevista? Me mató. ¿Quién firmaba? Jaime Bedoya.
Desde esa noche me volví lector selectivo de Caretas, pues la coyuntura no me interesaba (recordemos mi edad, el año 87 tampoco fue lindo), solo lo que ofrecía el fondo de la revista. Va de retro: el Concurso canalla, la calata, un poco de miscelánea culturosa y, por fin, a lo que me acercaba natural, instintivamente: la exquisita inactualidad de los textos de Bedoya y de Luis Jochamowitz. Una de las mejores cosas de ser un pipiolo de 13 años es que todo es nuevo. Desde entonces soy hincha de ambos autores. Recontra hincha. A ellos les debo mi costumbre de empezar las revistas por el final.
¿Pero qué pasa con Bedoya? ¿Es tan bueno, o el bluffing de los esnobs y su necesidad de tener escritores de culto lo decoran? Yo siempre trato, por principio, de separar al autor de la obra, y creo que Bedoya es buenazo. La invisibilidad y el mutismo no son los poderes que me interesan de él, sino lo que es capaz de escribir, del mar, del imitador de Julio Iglesias, de su hija, de un vampiro que no es. De la nostalgia en París, en San Isidro (esquina Dos de mayo y Prescott), de algunos aeropuertos. De Keiko y de Gastón. Del poto y de la mujer rana. De personas, animales, lugares, artefactos, sucesos reales o inventados, todo a través de su mirada y de su voz. Eso es JB: no un autor de cuentos, ni de relatos, ni de crónicas: es un mirador alerta que capta señales sueltas –de vida, de experiencia, de realidad, de la imaginación, de Internet– para devolverlas en forma de textos de mil, tres mil palabras llenos de buen gusto, inteligencia, sensibilidad y mucho humor. Lleva décadas escribiéndolos porque son uno solo, por supuesto. No importa qué puedan ser. Importa qué son.
Recogidos del blog homónimo, los bedoyismos de este libro se hallan en feliz armonía con los recogidos de los extintos ¡Ay qué rico! y Kilómetro 0, y de Mal menor. ¿Bedoya es el Luis Loayza de los tiempos corrientes? Su prosa es magnífica, posee una sensibilidad fina e inteligente, publica poco, se muestra menos. Ya dije que el mito Bedoya es, claro, paratextual. Los libros pelean solitos, o al menos deberían hacerlo. A título personal le pediría una novela, pero quién soy yo para plantearle cosas que quizá no le interesen.
La versión de editor
Lamentablemente, Trigo atómico parece haber sido publicado por el enemigo. Por alguien que no quiere bien al autor. No me voy a extender demasiado, pero la edición es horrible, desde la portada hasta el sumario, en forma y fondo. Está infectada de errores de tipeo, de erratas, de descuidos en la corrección. Todo editor sabe que hay dos tipos de redactores buenos: los eficientes y sobrios, y los que son como él, con nervio y estilo marcado (“pluma”), que necesariamente tienes que editar (sospecho que esto pasa con el JB escritor, no con el editor periodístico). Bueno, los amigos de Mitin se han zurrado en esta premisa. También.
La diagramación es desordenada, anticuada; su caja de texto, mezquina (como si hubiesen querido aprovechar el papel al máximo). Me resulta increíble que se consigne en los créditos todo un equipo editorial para haber perpetrado esto. Incluso, googleando encontré que hay una “segunda correctora” del libro, dejanda de lado en el postón: Pamela Ángela Medina García. Y todo con un libro tan esperado, con una oportunidad que cualquier editor hubiese valorado más. Tampoco creo que la selección haya sido tan lograda.
La cereza es el soneto de Sabina. ¿Era necesario? Y, de paso, ¿quién escribió la contra?
No es nada personal, las cosas como son. El holding Aerolíneas Editoriales (Estruendomudo, Calato, Mitin, Crayón) es una de las organizaciones editoriales más plausibles del medio. Sobre todo vía Estruendo, donde el buen Álvaro Lasso, que espero siga siendo mi amigo, ha publicado algunos libros valiosísimos de la nueva narrativa y poesía local, e incluso internacional. Pero la verdad es que no es la primera vez que sucede. Tuve un flashback al libro de Herralde sobre Bolaño.
No he visto en ningún medio ni una sola línea sobre este Trigo atómico, lo que en realidad no me extraña. Cuesta 30 soles, vale mucho más. Pese a la edición.
